Aesop Impact Report
For Aesop’s Impact Report, we developed a comprehensive design framework, visual system and art direction, bringing rigour and humanity to their sustainability narrative through considered collage and photography direction.
Challenge
Communicating progress without losing poetry.
Aesop’s impact spans climate, circularity, sourcing and community. The challenge was to translate a complex, data-rich report into an experience that felt coherent, readable and true to the brand’s distinctive voice. The document needed to balance corporate transparency with cultural sensitivity, particularly as Aesop integrated into the L’Oréal Groupe. It had to honour measurable progress, from B Corp recertification to carbon reduction targets, while maintaining the quiet intelligence and restraint that define the brand.

Solution
A design system built on restraint and depth.
We created a flexible design framework that could hold dense information and expressive storytelling in equal measure. A muted, earthy palette anchored the report in materiality and nature, while bold typographic compositions gave structure to data and long-form content.
Our art direction introduced a refined collage language, layering photography, archival textures and organic forms to reflect circularity and interconnected systems. We directed all imagery to feel intimate and tactile, from store interiors to material close-ups. Infographics were carefully crafted to elevate key metrics, ensuring clarity without visual noise. The result is a report that feels both analytical and atmospheric.

Results
Clarity that strengthens credibility.
The final report presents Aesop’s progress with confidence and nuance. Complex sustainability metrics are made accessible, while the brand’s values remain central throughout. The design system provides a scalable foundation for future reports and related communications.
Most importantly, the publication reinforces trust. It demonstrates measurable outcomes, from 16,969kg of packaging collected through Rinse and Return to 99.6% of employees paid a living wage, while expressing Aesop’s long-term commitment to circular design, responsible sourcing and community impact.
